Asian Games 2026: India's Table Tennis Squad, History, Four Paddlers to Watch

India will enter the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya with a 10-member table tennis squad, hoping to add to its modest medal tally in the continental event.

The competition is scheduled from September 20 to 28, with India fielding strong combinations across team, singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.

The men's squad comprises G Sathiyan, Harmeet Desai, Manav Thakkar, Manush Shah and Payas Jain, while the women's team features Sreeja Akula, Yashaswini Ghorpade, Diya Chitale, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Syndrela Das.

India's Asian Games Table Tennis Medal History

India have won three table tennis medals at the Asian Games, all bronze. The first two came at Jakarta 2018, when India won bronze in the men's team event and Manika Batra and Sharath Kamal secured another bronze in mixed doubles.

At the Hangzhou Games in 2023, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee added a bronze in women's doubles.

India will therefore be looking to break its gold-medal duck in the sport in Aichi-Nagoya.

Four Indian Paddlers to Watch

1. Manav Thakkar

Manav is one of India's biggest men's singles medal hopes. He will also partner Manush Shah in men's doubles, with the pair having emerged as one of India's strongest combinations. His ability to contribute across singles, doubles and the men's team makes him a key player.

2. Manush Shah

Manush has enjoyed a rapid rise in 2026. He has broken into the world's top 50 in singles and, alongside Manav, has become one of India's leading men's doubles combinations. He will compete in men's singles, men's doubles and the men's team event.

3. Sreeja Akula

Sreeja will lead India's women's challenge. She has been India's top-ranked women's player and will compete in singles, women's doubles alongside Diya Chitale and the women's team event. She is expected to feature in both singles and doubles in the competition.

4. Syndrela Das

With strong momentum on her side, Syndrela Das can be a surprising package in the Asian Games. The Kolkata teenager has come through the ranks by leaps and bounds in recent months, and has the ability to surprised a few in Japan. A push for medal is possible, as Syndrela would definitely be hoping to make a mark.
