Asian Games 2026: India Win Compound Mixed Team Gold, Secure 2028 Olympic Quota

India continued its strong run in compound archery at the Asian Games 2026 as Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav clinched gold in the mixed team event, defeating South Korea in a tense shoot-off on Wednesday.

The Indian pair prevailed 158-157 against Korea's Jungyoon Park and Choi Eun Gyu in a closely fought final, adding another gold to India's archery haul and securing a quota place for the 2028 Olympic Games.

Chikitha and Sahil hold nerve in shoot-off

The final went down to the wire, with neither India nor Korea able to establish a decisive advantage during the regulation rounds. The Indian duo eventually held their nerve in the shoot-off to edge their Korean opponents by a single point.

Chikitha and Sahil had reached the final after an equally tight semifinal against Thailand, winning 156-155 to book their place in the gold-medal match.

For Chikitha, the victory marked her second gold medal of the Asian Games. It also gave India back-to-back gold medals in compound archery at the ongoing Games.

More importantly, the mixed team triumph earned India a quota place for the 2028 Olympic Games, adding another significant dimension to the victory.

Chikitha doubles up after women's team gold

Chikitha had already stood on top of the podium earlier in the Games as part of India's women's compound team.

The trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 in the women's team final to retain India's Asian Games title.

The victory also saw India equal the world record of 238 points, previously set by South Korea at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.

India made a fast start in the final, taking the opening end 60-58 after producing a series of perfect 10s. The defending champions maintained their advantage in the second end, winning it 60-58 to move 120-116 ahead.

The Indian trio then extended its advantage to 178-176 heading into the final end.

India finish with another perfect final end

China struggled under pressure in the final end, dropping two 9s, while India produced another flawless round featuring six perfect 10s.

That allowed the Indian trio to close out a 238-234 victory and match South Korea's world-record score.

China's Wunier, Yue Wang and Fangyao Wei settled for silver, while South Korea's Park Jungyoon, Park Yerin and Kang Yeonseo defeated Chinese Taipei to take bronze.

The result underlined India's dominance in the women's compound event and gave Chikitha a second opportunity to celebrate gold at these Games.

India's growing archery medal haul

The two victories have strengthened India's position in compound archery at the Asian Games, with the women's team retaining its title before Chikitha and Sahil added the mixed team crown.

India had won five gold medals in archery at the previous edition of the Asian Games, and the performances in 2026 have again placed the country's compound archers at the centre of the medal campaign.

For Chikitha, the mixed team gold also makes this Asian Games a particularly significant one, with the archer now a double gold medallist and part of an Indian pair that has secured an Olympic quota place for 2028.
