Asian Games 2026: Indian Compound Archery Team Reach Semifinals, Set Up South Korea Showdown

Nagoya, September 27: The Indian archery team (recurve and compound) has reached the semifinals of the Asian Games 2026. To start with the Indian men's and women's compound teams (men's and women's) reached the semifinals in their respective categories at Aichi Nagoya.

The men's trio of Sahil Jadhav, Ganesh Mani Ratnam and Kushal Dalal first defeated the UAE, 235-215, then swept Bhutan, 235-232, in a closely contested quarterfinal. Meanwhile, the compound women's team of Chikitha Taniparthi, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, and Prithika Pradeep were even better against Mongolia, beating them 238-223 in the round of 16. They then faced Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals, whom they defeated 230-233 in yet another closely contested quarterfinal.

However, the challenge intensifies significantly, with both the men's and women's teams set to face traditional powerhouse South Korea in the semifinals. With a place in the gold medal match at stake, both Indian sides will need to overcome a formidable opponent in the crucial semifinals on September 30.

Meanwhile, there was good news from surfing as well, with both Sugar Shanti Gayen and Kamali Prakash advancing to the third round of the women's shortboard event. Sugar Shanti put in a composed performance against Chinese Taipei's Chen Wan-yu, securing a total score of 7.33. She opened with a 3.83-point wave before adding another 3.50 on her second attempt to comfortably move through.

Kamali Prakash also continued India's strong showing, defeating Singapore's Camille Marie Spaccarotella with a total score of 7.57. Kamali earned 4.17 points from her first wave and followed it up with 3.40 on her second, while Spaccarotella finished with 4.50.

With both Indian surfers now through to the next stage, attention will turn to the quarterfinals, which are scheduled to take place tomorrow. Their progression keeps India's hopes alive in the women's shortboard competition.
