Asian Games 2026: Manush Shah, Diya Chitale Assure India of Table Tennis Medal; Sreeja, Syndrela, Manav crash out

India endured a mixed morning in table tennis at the Asian Games 2026 on Friday, September 25, with Manush Shah and Yashaswini Ghorpade registering singles victories, while Sreeja Akula suffered a singles defeat and later exited the women's doubles alongside Syndrela Das.

Manush Shah and Diya Chitale have also confirmed a medal for the Indian team in the Table Tennis, but the colour is not confirmed yet.

Manush Shah produced one of India's most convincing performances of the day, defeating Iran's Benyamin Faraji 4-0 in the men's singles Round of 32. Shah dominated the contest from the outset, winning 11-9, 11-6, 11-6, 11-5 to book his place in the Round of 16.

Manush, Diya ensure Medals for India

The biggest moment for India came in the mixed doubles, where Manush Shah and Diya Chitale defeated Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem 3-1 in the quarterfinals. The victory took the Indian pair into the semifinals and assured India a medal in table tennis. They will take on Chinese pair Yingsha Sun and Chuqing Wanh in the semifinal later today.

In the other mixed doubles match, Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade had a defeat and they crashed out as well.

Yashaswini advance in Singles, Sreeja exits

Yashaswini Ghorpade also progressed in the women's singles. The Indian defeated Syria's Hend Zaza 4-1, winning 11-5, 11-5, 11-8, 8-11, 11-4. After dropping the fourth game, Ghorpade regained control to close out the match.

It was a tougher outing for Sreeja Akula in the women's singles Round of 32. She was beaten by DPR Korea's Pyon Song Gyong, bringing her singles campaign to an end.

Women's Doubles campaign ends

Sreeja's day then ended in the women's doubles as she and Syndrela Das went down 0-3 to China's Kuai Man and Wang Manyu in the quarterfinals. The Indian pair lost 6-11, 7-11, 7-11. In the other match, Diya and Yashaswini suffered similar fate to crash out of the competition.

Men's Doubles: Sathyan, Harmeet still alive

There was better news in the men's doubles, where Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Harmeet Desai advanced after defeating Indonesia's Affan Pratama and Muhammad Negara 3-2 in the Round of 32. They will play their Round of 16 match later today as well.

Manav Thakkar exits

Manav Thakkar's Asian Games 2026 singles campaign ended in the Round of 32 as DPR Korea's U Tae Ryong defeated him 4-2.
