Asian Games 2026: Neeru Dhanda, Gulveer Singh and Vithya Ramraj Create History With Hat-Trick of Medals

India has witnessed a remarkable medal milestone at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, with Neeru Dhanda, Gulveer Singh and Vithya Ramraj each winning three medals at the same edition of the continental showpiece.

The trio has produced outstanding performances across shooting and athletics, making the 2026 Games a memorable chapter in Indian sporting history.

Neeru Dhanda: A historic golden run

Neeru Dhanda has emerged as one of India's biggest stars in shooting at the Asian Games.

Her medal campaign began with silver in the women's trap team event, where she combined with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. The Indian trio finished behind China to secure the silver medal.

Dhanda then created history in the individual women's trap event. She became the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games medal in trap or skeet, and went one better by claiming gold. Her score of 28 in the final also set an Asian Games record.

She completed her three-medal haul on September 30 by joining forces with Kynan Chenai in the mixed team trap event. The Indian pair won gold with a record score, giving Dhanda her second gold of the Games.

Gulveer Singh: Three medals from three distances

Gulveer Singh produced an extraordinary athletics campaign, winning medals across three different individual events. He began with silver in the men's 10,000m, before adding another silver in the 1,500m, where he clocked a personal best of 3:36.72. He then completed his medal hat-trick with bronze in the men's 5,000m, clocking 13:32.75.

Gulveer's achievement is particularly significant because all three of his medals came in individual events. He became only the second Indian man to win three track and field medals at a single Asian Games, after Lavy Pinto achieved the feat at the inaugural 1951 Games.

Vithya Ramraj: Gold, silver and bronze

Vithya Ramraj also completed a three-medal campaign, winning one medal of each colour. She first claimed bronze in the women's 400m hurdles, clocking 54.75 seconds and breaking P.T. Usha's 42-year-old national record of 55.42 seconds.

Vithya then helped India win silver in the mixed 4x400m relay, before producing another memorable performance in the women's 4x400m relay. Running the anchor leg, she helped India win gold in 3:29.69, giving the country its first athletics gold of the 2026 Asian Games.

The three medal hauls have come in very different ways. Neeru Dhanda combined individual brilliance with team success in shooting, winning two golds and a silver. Gulveer Singh achieved his three-medal haul entirely through individual distance races, winning two silvers and a bronze. Vithya Ramraj won all three colours - gold, silver and bronze - across individual and relay events.
