Priya Punches Her Way Into Asian Games Semifinals

India secured another boxing medal at the 2026 Asian Games after Priya advanced to the semifinals of the women's 60kg category.

Priya defeated Tajikistan's Mijgona Samadova 5-0 by unanimous decision in the quarterfinals in Aichi-Nagoya on Monday. She edged the opening round 3-2 before taking complete control, winning the second round 5-0 and maintaining her advantage in the final round.

Priya dominates Samadova to seal Asian Games medal

The Indian boxer started cautiously, with Samadova taking some points in the opening round. Priya, however, grew into the contest and asserted her dominance in the second round, where all five judges scored it in her favour.

She maintained that control through the final round to complete a convincing 5-0 victory and book her place in the semifinals.

The result guarantees Priya at least a bronze medal and adds to India's growing boxing medal haul at the Asian Games.

Lovlina Borgohain also reaches semifinals

India also secured another women's boxing medal on Monday, with Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain advancing to the semifinals of the 75kg category.

Lovlina defeated South Korea's Seong Suyeon 5-0 in the quarterfinals. She narrowly took the opening round 10-9 on the judges' cards before dominating the next two rounds 5-0 each.

Parveen Hooda had earlier secured a medal in the women's 65kg category after defeating Uzbekistan's World Championships silver medallist Navbakhor Khamidova 5-0.

In the men's draw, Ankush Panghal also progressed to the semifinals of the 80kg category after beating Tajikistan's Nekruz Salimov 5-0.

India's boxing contingent therefore continues to add to its medal tally as the competition moves into the final stages.
