Asian Games 2026: Sreeja-Syndrela, Yashaswini-Diya Storm Into Women’s Doubles Round of 16

India made a strong start to its women's doubles campaign in table tennis at the Asian Games 2026, with both Sreeja Akula-Syndrela Das and Yashaswini Ghorpade-Diya Chitale advancing to the Round of 16 on Thursday.

Yashaswini and Diya were the first Indian pair in action, producing a dominant 3-0 victory over Iran's Setayesh Iloukhani and Mahshid Ashtari in the Round of 32. The Indian duo controlled the contest from the outset, winning the three games 11-2, 11-2, 11-4.

India looks to make an impact in the doubles events at Aichi-Nagoya. The pair had already featured prominently in India's women's team campaign, with both players part of the squad that began the Games with wins over Indonesia and Singapore.

Later, Sreeja Akula and 17-year-old Syndrela Das also booked their place in the Round of 16. The Indian pair defeated Mongolia's Bolor-erdene Batmunkh and Burenjargal Sanjaa 3-0, winning 11-5, 11-4, 12-10.

Sreeja brings considerable experience to the pairing, while Syndrela represents one of the emerging talents in India's women's table tennis setup. Both have already contributed to India's team campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.

With both Indian combinations through to the last 16, India now has two women's doubles pairs continuing their challenge in the knockout stages. The results add to an encouraging doubles campaign for the Indian contingent, which entered the Asian Games with a strong mix of experience and emerging talent.
