India's second-best Asian Games medal haul
India's 85-medal campaign in Aichi-Nagoya ranks second in the country's Asian Games history.
The record remains the 106 medals won at Hangzhou 2023, when India collected 28 gold, 38 silver and 40 bronze medals. The 2026 contingent therefore fell short of that overall total but still produced the second-largest medal haul for India at the continental Games.
India's biggest medal contributors
Athletics was India's largest medal-producing sport, accounting for 24 of the country's 85 medals. The discipline delivered nine silver and 14 bronze medals alongside Tajinderpal Singh Toor's silver and the women's 4x400m relay gold.
Shooting was India's second-biggest contributor with 15 medals, including three golds and eight silvers. Archery, meanwhile, produced nine medals and India's highest gold-medal return from a single sport, with five champions.
Wrestling and boxing also delivered six medals apiece, while cricket, hockey and kabaddi each produced two gold medals.
Historic milestones from India's Asian Games 2026 campaign
The 2026 Games were marked by several firsts, droughts ending and significant individual and team achievements.
India ends 44-year wait for women's hockey gold
India's women's hockey team ended a 44-year wait for the Asian Games title by winning gold in Aichi-Nagoya.
The achievement was one of the most significant team-sport milestones of India's campaign, adding another continental title to the women's team's record.
India also won the men's hockey title, meaning both Indian hockey teams finished on top of the podium.
Historic women's recurve archery gold
Ankita Bhakat, Kumkum Mohod and Kirti Sharma defeated South Korea to win India's first-ever women's team recurve gold at the Asian Games.
Kumkum, only 17, went on to win the individual recurve gold as well, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve that feat at the continental Games.
Pranavi Urs makes golf history
Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in golf at the Asian Games.
She also contributed to India's women's team silver alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar.
Lovlina Borgohain joins elite company
Lovlina Borgohain became only the second Indian woman boxer to win an Asian Games gold medal, following Mary Kom's achievement at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.
Her gold was one of India's three boxing titles in Aichi-Nagoya.
New Asian Games medals in MMA and soft tennis
Suchika Tariyal created history by winning India's first Asian Games medal in mixed martial arts, taking bronze in the women's traditional -60kg category.
Jay Meena followed with India's first Asian Games medal in soft tennis after reaching the men's singles semi-finals.
Mirabai Chanu ends weightlifting medal drought
Mirabai Chanu won silver in the women's 49kg category, giving India its first Asian Games weightlifting medal since Bangkok 1998.
The result ended a long medal drought for India in the sport at the continental Games.
Marathon medal drought ends after 44 years
Sawan Barwal won silver in the men's marathon, giving India its first medal in the event since 1982.
Barwal also set a new national record during his historic run.

His result added another significant athletics milestone to India's campaign.

Anahat Singh makes history in squash

India also won bronze in the women's and men's team events.
India's team-sport gold medal sweep
India's strength in team sports was another defining feature of the Aichi-Nagoya campaign.
The Indian women's and men's cricket teams both retained their Asian Games titles, while the men's and women's kabaddi teams also won gold. Both hockey teams completed India's sweep of the two hockey titles.
India's women's cricket team provided the first gold medal of the country's campaign by defeating Sri Lanka in the final, before the men's team also retained its title by beating Pakistan.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games also carried Olympic qualification significance in several sports.
Seven sports - archery, hockey, sailing, squash, surfing, tennis and triathlon - offered LA 2028 Olympic quotas alongside their Asian Games medals. India secured Olympic berths in men's and women's hockey, as well as in compound mixed team archery and women's individual recurve archery.
