Asian Para Games 2026: Nishad Kumar Soars To Long Jump Gold

India's Nishad Kumar added another golden moment to the country's campaign at the Asian Para Games 2026, clinching the men's long jump T47 title at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Tuesday.

The Indian para-athlete produced a best effort of 7.11m to top the podium, securing India's second gold medal of the ongoing edition. Shooter Mona Agarwal had earlier opened India's gold medal account by winning the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 event.

Nishad stamped his authority on the long jump competition with two identical 7.11m efforts, achieved on his third and fifth attempts. He also recorded jumps of 6.95m, 7.09m and 7.07m during the event.

Uzbekistan's Omadbek Khasanov claimed the silver medal with a best jump of 6.99m, while Sri Lanka's Mohammadu Safran settled for bronze after managing 6.55m.

While the long jump gold adds another achievement to Nishad's impressive para-athletics career, the 27-year-old is best known for his performances in the men's high jump T47 category.

Nishad is the reigning Asian Para Games champion in the high jump and has also established himself on the global stage, winning a World Championships gold medal and two silver medals at the Paralympic Games in the event.

His success in Nagoya could be far from over, with the Indian star set to return to action in the men's high jump T47 final later on Tuesday.

Having already secured the long jump crown, Nishad will look to carry that momentum into his specialist event and add another gold medal to India's growing tally at the continental para-sporting showpiece.
