Assam tops with 76 medals

Gangtok, Feb 28 (UNI) Assam topped the medal tally with 76 a haul of -- 29 gold, 21 silver and 26 bronze -- in the North East sports festival which concluded here today .

Hosts Sikkim finished second, collecting a total of 59 medals-- 27 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze. Manipur ranked third with 24 gold.

Nagaland fourth, Meghalaya finished fifth and Arunachal sixth.

Mizoram finished seventh while Tripura figured at the bottom of the medal list with 35 medals including 2 gold.

While Assam dominated the athletic events with 27 medals winning 14 gold, six silver and three bronze, Manipur won 13 medals including seven gold and two silver.

Sikkim captured the highest number of medals 18 in boxing.

Sikkim Education Minster G M Gurung declared the sports festival closed in a colourful function and presented the awards to the winners.
