Colombo, May 25 (UNI) The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced that assistant coach Trevor Penney will be taking charge of the national team until the formal appointment of a full time coach is made.
The Sri Lankan media quoted Chairman of SLC, Jayantha Dharmadasa as saying that if the board fails to appoint a full time coach before the next month's home series against Bangladesh, then Penney will automatically be in charge of the national team.
He also pointed out that the possibilty of former pacer Rumesh Ratnayake taking up the job is bleak, as he is presently busy with his stint in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
However, on condition of anonymity the media quoted a senior Sri Lankan board source as saying that Penny, whose contract ends at September, will be in charge of the team alongside Ratnayake.
Meanwhile, the SLC Chairman informed that the board has already shortlisted four possible contenders to take up Moody's job, but were in no hurry as it is a tough task to select the ideal person and it may not be before mid-June that any announcement can be made in this regard.
