Aston Martin to field DBR9 for Le Mans GT1

By Staff

Mumbai, Jan 10: Defending champions Aston Martin has teamed with Gulf Oil in their bid to defend their Le Mans GT1 title in 2008.

Aston Martin will field its DBR9s racing cars for the race, slated to be held on June 14 and 15, a release stated.

''It was perhaps destined that in this year, we defend our GT1 title and Gulf celebrates the 40th anniversary of its win, we would finally race together at La Sarthe,'' Aston Martin Chairman David Richards said.

''2008 already has great significance for us as it will mark the coming together of two great automotive names for what I hope will be a long and fruitful partnership,'' Gulf Oil International Vice President Alain Dujean added.

Started in Le Mans, France in 1923, the Le Mans 24-hour endurance is considered one of the toughest testing ground for the world's finest cars.

Built in 2005, the Aston Martin DBR9 was named in honour of racing driver, David Brown, who won the race in 1959 and has won the Le Mans GT1 class in 2007, the release added.
