Omaha, Nebraska, July 27 (UNI) Arjun Atwal was all set to miss the cut after carding a birdie-free four-over 75 that saw him placed at a poor tied 150th after the opening round of the Cox Classic tournament.
Way off the mark, Atwal couldn't capitalise ideal scoring conditions and dropped a couple of strokes on either side of the turn to nearly put himself out of weekend action.
American Chris Thomson had a dream day out in the greens as he blasted seven birdies and two eagles to return a sensational 11-under 60 card to take the pole position at the 650,000 dollar Nationwide Tour event.
Scott Sterling was just a stroke behind after a near-perfect 61 studded with nine birdies and a eagle.
