Augusta Masters: Shane Lowry Makes History With Second Career Ace, Moves Into Title Contention

Augusta Masters: Shane Lowry made history with a sensational hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth, becoming the first player to record two career aces at Augusta National while thrusting himself into contention for his maiden green jacket.

Playing alongside Tommy Fleetwood, Lowry struck a 7-iron from 190 yards that bounced three times before dropping into the cup, sparking wild celebrations reminiscent of his earlier ace at the 16th a decade ago. "You don't ever expect to make a hole-in-one. I just couldn't believe it," Lowry said.

The moment powered him to a round of 68, taking him to nine-under for the tournament, just two shots behind leaders Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young heading into the final round.

Remarkably, it was Lowry's second hole-in-one in consecutive events, having also aced a hole at the Houston Open with the same club. His latest effort was the first ace at the Masters since Stewart Cink in 2022 and only the seventh on the challenging sixth hole, last achieved by Corey Conners in 2021.

Lowry, whose only major title came at the 2019 Open Championship, now stands within touching distance of adding the Masters crown, with the final round set to determine the champion.
