Austin Reaves Out At Least One Month With Left Calf Strain

Lakers guard Austin Reaves will miss at least four weeks with a grade 2 left gastrocnemius strain. His absence increases minutes for peers and affects team rotation as Los Angeles navigates injuries amid a stretch of losses.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves is set to be sidelined for at least one month with a left calf problem, the team confirmed on Friday. Medical staff plan to reassess the situation in about four weeks, after diagnosing a grade 2 strain in the left gastrocnemius muscle.

The setback came during the Lakers’ 119-96 defeat to Houston on Thursday, when Reaves did not appear after half-time. Reaves scored 12 points before leaving the game, which became Los Angeles’ third consecutive loss. It was only Reaves’ second appearance back, after missing three straight games with the same left calf issue.

Reaves ranks second on the Lakers behind Luka Doncic with an average of 26.6 points per game, while also posting 5.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists. The strong form had pushed Reaves into All-Star discussions. With Reaves unavailable, Marcus Smart, Dalton Knecht and possibly Bronny James are expected to handle extra minutes.
