Melbourne, Sep 5: Australia have agreed to China's request to postpone next month's scheduled friendly in Sydney because of changes to the World Cup qualifying programme.
Australia and China were due to play at Sydney's Olympic stadium on October 13 but the match has been scrapped after the Asian Football Confederation announced changes to the first round of World Cup qualifiers in October.
China are drawn to play Myanmar on October 8 and 28 and were concerned that a rushed trip to Australia might effect their performance.
Australia, who have been given an automatic place in the second round of qualifiers, said they agreed to China's request to postpone the match but hoped to reschedule it on another date.
''It is disappointing for the fans that the match will not take place as planned, but we all recognise how important World Cup qualifiers are to any country and we have agreed to their request on this basis,'' Football Federation of Australia chief executive Ben Buckley said in a statement today.
