Australia to announce Asian Cup squad tomorrow

SYDNEY, June 7 (Reuters) Australia will announce their squad for next month's Asian Cup tomorrow.

The squad is expected to be dominated by Australia's European-based players, including Mark Viduka, Harry Kewell, Tim Cahill and Lucas Neill.

Australia are appearing in the Asian Cup for the first time but are among the favourites to win the 16-team tournament after they were the only country from the Asian Football Confederation to reach the second round of the World Cup last year.

The Socceroos were beaten 2-1 by Uruguay in a friendly in Sydney last weekend but were without most of their top players, who are expected to be back for their final warm-up match in Singapore on June 30.

Australia are drawn in Group A alongside Iraq, Oman and co-hosts Thailand, with their pool matches all in Bangkok.

The July 7-29 Asian Cup will be held in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia.
