Australian Open win was a real boost: Chitra

Bangalore, Oct 16 (UNI) Two-time World Billiards Champion Chitra Magimairaj, who added another feather to her cap by winning the Australian Open Women Snooker Championship on Sunday, today expressed confidence in winning the World Snooker title.

''Yes. Certainly the win in New South Wales on Sunday has further boosted my dream of winning World Snooker title.

''I felt very happy after winning my maiden Australian Open title,'' the 25-year-old told UNI after her return from Sydney where she recorded the highest break of 64.

She said the one lesson she learnt from the tournament was ''you should not be too desperate to win, you should play your own game.

''The more I started believing in myself, I started winning. I enjoyed the game. The standard of the game was also good.'' When asked whether there was any moment of anxiousness in her run, Chitra, who had a clean slate in the league by winning all the five matches, said ''my opponents were all top players.

''Though there were no anxious moments, I played with confidently and enjoyed the game.'' Chitra, who had bagged a couple of world titles, is yet to win the national title.

She said her next aim was to win National Championship scheduled to be held next month at Indore.

The Bangalorean, however, has won National titles in Eight Pin and Nine Ball Pool Games. She was twice runner-up in National Billiards Championship and won more than five times in Snooker Championship.

The Australia Open was Chitra's second major title of the year.

Pairing with Vidya Pillai, Chitra had won the Yasin Merchant Classic Doubles Snooker Tourney.
