TORONTO, July 9 (Reuters) Austria and Chile went through to the last 16 of the Under-20 World Cup after a 0-0 draw, while Congo progressed at the expense of hosts Canada.

Chile finished top of Group A with seven points while Austria went through in second place with five points.

Congo beat Canada 2-0 to eliminate the hosts and advance to the last 16 as one of the top four third-placed sides.

Ermejea Ngakosso put the African side ahead in the 26th minute, kneeing home from close range, and then Gracia Ikouma secured victory.

Canada exited the competition without scoring a point or a goal.

In Group C, Gambia took second place after a surprise win over Portugal, who also advanced as a third-place finisher.

Portugal took the lead after 20 minutes when Feliciano Condesso headed home a the Pedro Correia cross.

An Ousman Jallow penalty brought Gambia level just before the interval and then Abdoulie Mansally grabbed the winner with a 68th minute free-kick.

Mexico, already through, picked up their third successive win -- goals from Christian Bermudez and Osmar Mares put the group winners 2-0 up against New Zealand.

Jack Pelter scored New Zealand's only goal of the tournament in the last minute but they head home without picking up a point.

The results of the final round of group games means Brazil go through as a third-placed team but Costa Rica are eliminated.
