Bagan edges past HAL by solitary goal

Kolkata, Mar 29 (UNI) Mohun Bagan got a lifeline today defeating HAL by a solitary goal in an NFL tie here.

The all important goal came in the 15th minute of the match when Mehtab Hussein essayed a through and Bhaichung Bhutia played a dummy to open up the box for Lal Kamal Bhowmik, whose 30 yarder found the target.

Bagan has 12 points from ten matches, while HAL has nine from as many matches.

This apart, six minutes into the second half, Bhowmik set up Bhaichung in the open with an aerial ball but the ace striker blasted off into the orbit.

Into the injury time, Murli had an easier chance of the match to restore parity for the HAL. However, he missed the target with an open net before him.
