Bahuguna consolidates lead at LG ITC Classic Open

By Staff

Gurgaon, Apr 24 (UNI) Saurabh Bahuguna shot two under 70 to extend his lead to three shots at the end of the penultimate round of the LG ITC Classic Open Amateur golf championship here today.

On a day when sub-par scores came at a premium, (three cards to be precise), Bahuguna added a 70 to his overnight 140 to be six-under 210 after 54 holes.

However, it was Abhishek Jha who shot the day's best of 69 to move into second position with a total of 213. Pawan Kumar was third at 215 while Vikram Rana and Rahul Bajaj were tied for the fourth spot at 219.

The young duo of Kapil Kumar and Amanjyot Singh were tied for the sixth place at 220 while H S Kang occupied the sole eighth place at 221.

Bahuguna started with a birdie on the opening hole where he drained a 30-footer. This was followed by another birdie on the par-3 second. However, he lost the touch with his putter as he missed at least three birdies from a short distance. A couple of consecutive bogeys on the seventh and eighth was followed by a birdie on the ninth.

Despite the hostile conditions, Bahuguna found the fairways and greens for most part of the game and in fact flirted with birdies before finally converting on the par-3 17th to finish the day at 2-under.
