Ballesteros named European captain for Royal Trophy

Bangkok, Oct 5: Five-times major winner Seve Ballesteros will captain the European team to face Asia in next year's Royal Trophy, organisers said today.

The 50-year-old Spaniard would be a non-playing captain for the third consectuive year and would soon begin selecting his eight-man team for the matchplay event, organisers told Reuters.

Ryder Cup holders Europe won the inaugural edition of the Royal Trophy in 2006 and thrashed Asia 12 { - 3 { earlier this year to retain the title.

The contest, which features singles, foursomes and fourballs, will be played at the Amata Springs Country Club in Chonburi, east of Bangkok, from January 11-13.
