Balmohan Vidyamandir beats IES New English

Mumbai, Feb 1: An all round performance from Gaurav Jathar gained Balmohan Vidyamandir a pre-quarter final berth after they beat IES New English, Bandra by 5 wickets in the 7th Parle Super Cup under-17 inter-school cricket tournament, played at the Azad Maidan and promoted by Procam International, here today.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, IES New English, Bandra managed to score only 129 runs in their allotted 45 overs for loss of eight wickets. Their poor batting performance was evident from the fact that all their batsmen except one got themselves out rather cheaply. Their woes were compounded by a good spell of left arm spin bowling by Gaurav Jathar. His tight line allowed the batsmen just 11 runs off his bowling. The entire Balmohan team did their part and got their opponents out for just 129 runs.

Balmohan looked comfortable as they donned the pads to face the IES New English attack. Most of the batsmen got off to start and hence a good base was formed. Jathar came to the middle after Balmohan had lost two wickets. His near perfect strike rate meant his team moved along quickly. His knock of 41 runs off 42 balls took his side to victory. Jathar earned himself the ''Man of the Match'' award for his batting and bowling performance.

In the other match, Anjuman-I-Islam, English comprehensively beat Shardashram High School (Marathi) by 80 runs. Ashish Yadav top scored for Anjuman with a knock of 93 runs in just 70 balls.

I.E.S. New English, Bandra 129 for 8 in 45 overs (Mitesh Parab 28 runs, Gaurav Jathar 3 for 11 in 8 overs) lost to Balmohan Vidyamandir 130 for 5 in 36 overs (Gaurav Jathar 41 runs (42 balls, 7x4), Rahul Deochake 30 runs, Mitesh Rane 2 for 23 in 9 overs) MoM: Gaurav Jathar.

Vasant Vihar (Thane) 173 for 9 in 45 overs (Roshan Rai 34 (38 balls 4X4), Shravan Ghodke 2/26) lost to IES Modern English 175/5 in 44.3 overs (Saurabh Dalvi 71* (81 balls, 5x4) Rohan Ranawade 22, Roshan Rai 3/32). MoM: Saurabh Dalvi.
