Bam Adebayo delivered 83 points for the Miami Heat against the Washington Wizards, producing one of the most prolific scoring nights in NBA history. The performance came at home in Miami and left Adebayo describing the achievement as surreal, as the Heat centre carried the offence throughout the victory.
Adebayo’s total ranked second on the all-time single-game scoring list, behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 100 points in 1962. The Miami star passed Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game from 2006, then summed up the company being kept with a short reflection after full-time: "Wilt, me, then Kobe," Adebayo said. "It sounds crazy. Just a surreal moment being in the company with somebody I idolised growing up."

The Heat forward also set new league marks from the foul line during the win over Washington. Adebayo converted 36 of 43 free throws, establishing NBA single-game records for both free throws made and attempted. From the field, Adebayo shot 20-of-43, maintaining a heavy offensive workload while still attacking the paint and drawing consistent contact.
| Player | Team | Opponent | Date | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wilt Chamberlain | Philadelphia Warriors | New York Knicks | 1962 | 100 |
| Bam Adebayo | Miami Heat | Washington Wizards | March 11, 2026 | 83 |
| Kobe Bryant | Los Angeles Lakers | Toronto Raptors | 2006 | 81 |
Context added further weight to the scoring outburst. Adebayo had entered the contest averaging 16 points per game across the NBA career. That made Adebayo the first player in league history to score at least 60 points more than a pre-game career average. Adebayo’s previous career-best had been 41 points against the Brooklyn Nets in January 2021, while the 2025-26 season high before facing Washington stood at 32.
Adebayo explained the mindset behind the performance, stressing focus rather than chasing numbers from the opening tip. "For me, it was just remaining calm, remaining locked in and understanding that I can go for something special. I didn't think it was going to be 83. But to have this moment is surreal, because like I said, man, to be able to do it at home, in front of my mom, in front of my people, in front of the home fans, this is a mark in history that will forever be remembered."
The 83 points also reset the Miami franchise scoring record, which had belonged to LeBron James. James registered 61 points for the Heat in March 2014. Head coach Erik Spoelstra reflected on witnessing another major occasion in the same building, and praised the scale of Adebayo’s display by saying: "An absolutely surreal night, Spoelstra added. Obviously, we've been blessed to have been part of a lot of big moments in this arena. This one, it just happened. Moments happen and I'm grateful that we're all able to be a part of it and witness it."
The Heat organisation also highlighted the achievement on social media, marking the scale of Adebayo’s scoring night with a short message and video clip from the Arena.
Adebayo’s 83-point performance against the Wizards now sits between Chamberlain and Bryant on the NBA’s scoring list, while also standing as the Heat’s top individual game. The combination of league records, franchise history and personal milestones ensured the Miami centre’s night will remain a key reference point for future scoring feats.
