Barca bemoan inability to turn domination into goals

By Staff

Madrid, Oct 24: Barcelona are blessed with one of the most fearsome attacking line-ups in European soccer but they were bemoaning their inability to turn domination into goals after being held to a 0-0 draw by Glasgow Rangers today.

Despite fielding Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry and former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen in the starting line-up, the Catalans were unable to find a way past inspired Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor and had to settle for a goalless draw yesterday.

''We started well enough and moved the ball around to try and minimise the pressure Rangers were putting on us, but we weren't able to score and that meant we had to battle it out until the end,'' Barca coach Frank Rijkaard told reporters.

''It wasn't a great game on our part .... but a draw in the Champions League isn't a bad result.'' The result means that the two teams are level on seven points at the top of Group E after three games, four points clear of third-placed Olympique Lyon.

Argentine forward Messi voiced the players' frustration at their failure to come away from Ibrox with a win.

''It seems incredible,'' he was quoted as saying by Barcelona-based daily Sport.

''Rangers didn't want to play football, from the first moment they played anti-football and I'm disappointed we couldn't win because we created a good number of chances.

''We just have to put the chances away. It was a real shame, but the draw isn't a bad result. It's really frustrating and difficult to play against a team like them, but it will be very different when they come to the Nou Camp.''
