The New York Liberty have set a benchmark at Barclays Center, which the Brooklyn Nets are now expected to reach. Liberty forward Breanna Stewart expressed hope that the 2024 champions have established a standard for the NBA team sharing their court. Stewart, a two-time WNBA MVP and now a three-time champion, shared her thoughts after the Liberty's 92-78 victory over the Las Vegas Aces.
Stewart emphasised the importance of creating a championship mindset at Barclays Center. "I think it creates a standard for anyone that comes into Barclays," she said, having scored 25 points against the Aces. "Whether it's us playing or the Nets. [It creates a] championship mindset and mentality among this franchise. It's a special thing. I've been looking forward to having this moment and celebrating with the fans."

The Liberty's triumph has inspired hopes of more titles in the future. Sabrina Ionescu addressed fans, expressing gratitude for their support during their championship journey. "We're so thankful, thank you guys for being part of this championship journey for us. We've got to run it back. We need the energy, the love and support," she stated.
The Brooklyn Nets have not claimed an NBA title since merging with the ABA and last reached the NBA Finals in 2003. Their 2024-25 season ended poorly with a 26-56 record, marking their second consecutive year missing the playoffs. Despite these challenges, there is optimism that they can draw inspiration from their WNBA counterparts.
The Liberty's recent success has set high expectations for both teams sharing Barclays Center. The Nets face significant challenges but can look to emulate the Liberty's winning mentality as they aim to improve their performance in upcoming seasons.
