Barton arrested over alleged training ground assault
LONDON, May 16 (Reuters) Manchester City and England midfielder Joey Barton has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on team mate Ousmane Dabo.
''We can confirm that a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a Section 20 assault following an incident with a 30-year-old man at Carrington,'' a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said today.
''He has been bailed until July 11 pending further enquiries.'' Dabo made a formal complaint to police after saying that Barton attacked him during a training session at City's Carrington training ground on May 1.
Newspaper photographs showed Dabo with heavy swelling on his face while the 30-year-old said he had been left looking like ''the Elephant Man''. Dabo also said he had been left with a detached retina.
Barton was suspended for the rest of the season after the incident and doubts surround his future at the club.
