Bayern Munich Secure DFB-Pokal Final Spot After 2-0 Win Over Bayer Leverkusen, Kane And Diaz Score

Bayern Munich moved one step closer to a treble, defeating Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 to reach the DFB-Pokal final. Goals from Harry Kane and Luis Diaz settled the semi-final at BayArena. Bayern will now face either Stuttgart or Freiburg in the showpiece, which will be Bayern’s first appearance in the domestic cup final since 2020.

Vincent Kompany’s team did not dominate the scoreline, yet controlled key moments and attacking zones for long spells. Bayern created the clearer chances throughout the match and forced repeated interventions from goalkeeper Mark Flekken and defender Robert Andrich, who both delayed the inevitable breakthrough for the Bundesliga champions.

Kane and Diaz seal Bayern’s DFB-Pokal final spot

The turning point arrived midway through the first half, when Jamal Musiala picked out Harry Kane with a low cutback. Kane drove his finish high into the roof of the net, leaving Flekken with no chance and giving Bayern control of their third meeting with Leverkusen this season across competitions.

Bayern’s opener came after an energetic start in which Dayot Upamecano went close, firing just over from distance. Before the breakthrough, Flekken denied Diaz and Kane in promising positions. Leverkusen, appearing in a third straight DFB-Pokal semi-final, struggled to create similar quality chances against a compact Bayern defence.

Kane’s strike was his seventh goal in this DFB-Pokal campaign, underlining an impressive scoring run. No player has hit more in a single edition of the competition over the last seven years. The last to reach seven was Robert Lewandowski in the 2018-19 season, highlighting the scale of Kane’s contribution.

Only Thomas Muller has scored more goals in one DFB-Pokal season this century. Muller hit eight during the 2013-14 campaign, meaning Kane now sits just one behind that mark. Bayern may yet give Kane another chance to equal or pass that total in the Berlin final.

Leverkusen’s hopes stayed alive deep into the second half due to Flekken’s repeated saves and Andrich’s crucial goal-line clearance from Diaz. Bayern pushed for a second goal and maintained control, yet required stoppage-time composure from Diaz to finally settle the contest and avoid late tension.

Diaz struck in the third minute of second-half stoppage time, finishing from a Leon Goretzka square pass. Diaz clipped the ball beyond Flekken, but celebrations paused when the assistant signalled offside. A VAR review overturned the decision, and the goal stood, ending Leverkusen’s resistance on a frustrating evening.

The underlying numbers reflected Bayern’s superiority in attack. Kompany’s side recorded 2.55 expected goals, compared with Leverkusen’s 0.29. That gap underlined how often Bayern reached dangerous areas. Leverkusen, by contrast, struggled to test Bayern’s defence or build sustained pressure close to Manuel Neuer’s penalty area.

Bayern’s victory extended a strong run of form, with the club now recording 15 wins in the last 16 matches across all competitions. Leverkusen suffered a rare attacking setback, failing to score in a DFB-Pokal match for the first time in 42 cup games, signalling an abrupt end to a consistent scoring sequence.

The result leaves Bayern 90 minutes from another DFB-Pokal trophy and keeps the treble possibility alive. Kane’s clinical finishing, Diaz’s late confirmation strike and controlled team play across the match provided a clear platform. Bayern now wait to see whether Stuttgart or Freiburg will stand between the club and another domestic cup triumph.
