Becks feels "proud" to be called gayest straight man

Washington, Nov 2 : Soccer ace David Beckham feels honoured to be called the 'gayest straight man in Britain' and 'blackest white man' in history.

In an interview to GQ magazine, the 33-year-old midfielder said he loves to be called a gay and black icon.

"When people talk to me about being a gay icon I think of it as a great honour," the Daily Star quoted him, as saying.

"To have that kind of affect on so many people around the world, I was honoured," he added.

The footie idol, who attracted black population after being photographed wearing a sarong in 1998 and showing off his man bulge in the new Armani underwear campaign last year says that he doesn't regret his fashion choices.

"I've always been into clothes and fashion. It wasn't a vain thing, it's just that I love looking smart," he said.

"I don't do things for people to latch on to. If I see something I like I wear it no matter what I think people are going to say about me.

"I don't do it for a statement, I do it because I like wearing different things," he added.

Becks also denied the claims that his assets were digitally enhanced in the Armani underwear ad.

"I would never have asked them to change anything," he said. "I was a bit apprehensive, and at the shoot I started getting nervous because I've never done pictures in my underwear before," he said.
