Bedi offers solace to beleagured Alam over match-fixing humiliation

By Super Admin

Islamabad, Oct.8 (ANI): Dejected by the match-fixing allegations, Pakistan cricket coach Intikhab Alam has said he has been deeply hurt by the controversy.

Alam said the allegations were so appalling that even former Indian Test captain Bishen Singh Bedi had called him for booting his morale.

"I'm deeply hurt, it's totally disappointing. Without any evidence these allegations are made and I think it's not patriotic," Alam said.

"Bedi told me, you have done so much for the Pakistan team and it's totally disappointing when such baseless allegations come up," he added.

It may be noted that National Assembly's Standing Committee on Sports chairman Jamshed Dasti had alleged that Pakistan had 'deliberately' lost the ICC Champions Trophy matches against Australia and New Zealand.

The sports committee has summoned Alam, captain Younis Khan and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt on October 13 to clarify the allegations labeled against them.

Alam said he has not received any invitation by the NA committee, and made it clear that he has no problem in appearing before it to explain his position.

"So far I have not received the invitation, but I have absolutely no problems in appearing before the committee," The News quoted Alam, as saying. (ANI)
