Billy Joe Saunders retains WBO Middleweight title

Quebec, December 17: Billy Joe Saunders dominated David Lemieux as he defended his WBO middleweight title and unbeaten record with a unanimous decision win on Saturday (December 16).

The Brit was in control from the outset at Place Bell in Quebec, outclassing Lemieux (38-4) for his victory.

Such was his dominance, the judges scored it 120-108, 118-110 and 117-111 in Saunders' favour.

After what was his first fight outside of United Kingdom, Saunders said he wanted to face WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1) next.

Saunders dominated the first half of the bout against Canadian Lemieux, taking early control with his aggression, particularly his jab.

While Lemieux started to get more aggressive in the fourth round, Saunders was in command.

The seventh round showcased Saunders' dominance, the Brit landing numerous blows to a bleeding Lemieux.

Saunders taunted Lemieux late in the fight as he defended the WBO middleweight title for a third time.
