Bopanna, Qureshi get walkover in doubles semis

By Staff

Mumbai, Sep 28 (UNI) India had something to cheer about in the 416,000 dollar Kingfisher Airlines Open tennis tournament when their number one singles player Rohan Bopanna and his partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan reached the men's doubles semi-finals at the CCI hard courts here.

Bopanna and Qureshi got a quarter-final walkover after their opponents Ivan Navarro (Spain) and Sergio Roitman (Argentina) withdrew from the competition because of the Argentine's elbow injury.

Meanwhile, top seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Fabrice Santoro (France) have also pulled out of the doubles event following the Indian doubles specialist's back injury.

Bhupathi had strained his back four days ago and is expected to be out of action for at least ten days.
