Borde condemns attack on Greg Chappell
Pune, Jan 22 (UNI) Former national selection committiee chairman and skipper Chandu Borde today condemned the attack on Indian coach Greg Chappell by an activist upon his arrival at the Bhubaneswar airport today.
''It is difficult to understand how the incident could have occurred despite strict security arrangements,'' Mr Borde said, while pointing out that similar untoward incidents had been avoided in the past because of stringent security arrangements.
''It is a matter of shame,'' Mr Borde said. ''In my tenure as the selection committee chairman, I have never witnessed such untoward incidents,'' he added.
Reacting to the shameful act by a ''Kalinga Sena'' activist, Brinchi Maharana, Mr Borde said, ''I would like to request the cricketing fans to desist from such actions.'' Former Test players Vasant Ranjane and Hemant Kanitkar, and Maharashtra Cricket Association president Ajay Shirke too have condemned the incident.
