Bengaluru, August 31: In a cruel turn of events, World 800M champion Pierre-Ambroise Bosse has ended his season early after suffering multiple facial fractures in a violent assault.

The 25-year-old surprised all to win gold at this month's World Championship after surging down in the final straight and much was expected from him in the upcoming events.

But in a tweet in his mother toungue which stunned the whole world, the Frenchman revealed that that he was attacked by three people on Saturday, which forced him to bring an early curtains to the season.

"I suffered unspeakable psychological damage," Bosse said.

Bosse also posted on his Facebook to reveal the extent of damage.

"For all these reasons, my season ends from today."

An investigation is now under way, added Bosse, who competed in the European Championships in Amsterdam last year.

"I who have always loved people, I love three of them less today," he added.

Bosse, who finished fourth in last year's Rio Olympics, surprised a star-studded field including Botswanan Nijel Amos, the third-fastest man ever, and former champion Mohammed Aman to clinch the yellow metal at the London Worlds in a time of 1 minute 44.67sec.

Poland's European champion Adam Kszczot produced one of his traditional fast races to finish second in 1:44.95.

Kenyan teenager Kipyegon Bett finished third in 1:45.21.
