By MyKhel Staff

Former world youth champion Ankushita Boro (60kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) secured dominant victories to advance to the quarterfinals of the second Boxing World Olympic Qualifiers 2024 in Bangkok on Wednesday.

National champion Arundhati Choudhary (66kg) also delivered a convincing performance to progress to the pre-quarterfinals. Boro faced Asian champion Rimma Volossenko of Kazakhstan, but the Indian boxer was unfazed by her opponent's reputation.

She came out aggressively from the first round and maintained control throughout the bout, ultimately winning with a 4-1 decision. World championships bronze medallist Nishant displayed clinical precision in his 5-0 victory over Thailand's Peerapat Yeasungnoen, securing his spot in the last eight.

Earlier in the day, Choudhary kicked off her 66 kg campaign with a strong first round against Stephanie Pieneiro of Puerto Rico. She adopted a more cautious approach in the second round, solidifying her position before dominating the final round to earn a unanimous 5-0 decision in her favor.

Narender Berwal (+92kg) also put up a commendable fight against Ecuador's Gerlon Gilmar Congo Chala but fell short of advancing to the next round. The 2022 Asian Games bronze medallist started slowly in the first round and had to play catch-up.

He managed to impress three of the five judges with his punches in the second and third rounds of the round of 32 bout. However, his efforts were insufficient to overcome the overall deficit.

On Thursday, Sachin Siwach (57kg) will aim to secure his quarterfinal spot against Batuhan Ciftci of Turkey. Meanwhile, 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Amit Panghal (51kg), Sanjeet (92kg), and Jaismine (women's 57kg) will begin their campaigns, having received byes in the opening round.
