Brit statistician predicts Holland to lift World Cup trophy

By Super Admin

London, June 27(ANI): A British statistician, who has modelled 100,000 possible outcomes in the knockout stages of the World Cup, has predicted that Holland will eventually win the tournament.

Ian McHale, a senior lecturer in statistics at the University of Salford, said that the Dutch have better than a one in six chance of becoming world champions.

He rated Holland above Brazil because they have won their last eight matches.

Surprisingly, his model placed Uruguay as third favourites, with a one in seven chance.

"Uruguay seem a little overrated, but they have a relatively easy run to the final," The Scotsman quoted McHale, as saying.

According to the model, England's chances are plain average.

McHale said that he would give Fabio Capello's men just a one in 16 chance in the last 16, partly due to their poor showing in the first two matches of the group stage.

England also has a tough draw against Germany, followed by a possible quarterfinal with Argentina. (ANI)
