Bucks Coach Doc Rivers Voices Concern Regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo's Injury Status

Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers expressed concern over Giannis Antetokounmpo's injury after he exited the game against the Cavaliers. The team is preparing for potential challenges ahead.

Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers acknowledged the seriousness of Giannis Antetokounmpo's injury but expressed confidence in the team's ability to adapt if he is sidelined. Antetokounmpo left the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a suspected groin strain, contributing 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists before his exit. The Bucks lost 118-106, marking their first consecutive defeats this season.

The Bucks have had an uneven start to the 2025-26 season, currently holding a 9th place in the Eastern Conference with an 8-7 record. Despite this, Antetokounmpo has been a standout performer. He has averaged 32.6 points on 63% shooting, along with 11.3 rebounds and 7.1 assists over his first 12 games. His usage rate of 36.4% is second highest in the NBA this season.

Rivers Concerned About Antetokounmpo's Injury

Rivers mentioned that Antetokounmpo initially felt discomfort in the first quarter but continued playing until it worsened later. "Didn't look great, I can tell you that," Rivers said about Antetokounmpo's condition. An MRI scan is expected to provide more clarity on the injury's severity soon.

Milwaukee has struggled without Antetokounmpo, going 1-1 in games he missed this season. Rivers is already strategising for potential scenarios if Antetokounmpo remains out for an extended period. "We got some work to do," Rivers stated, acknowledging the challenges ahead but remaining optimistic about finding solutions.

The Bucks' reliance on Antetokounmpo is evident as they navigate through this challenging phase. Rivers highlighted that losing both Kevin Porter Jr. and Giannis would be detrimental but assured fans that they are preparing for any situation that arises.

Antetokounmpo's absence could significantly impact Milwaukee's performance as they seek consistency in their campaign. The team will need to adjust quickly and find alternative strategies to maintain competitiveness in his absence.

Rivers remains hopeful despite the uncertainty surrounding Antetokounmpo's injury status and emphasised readiness for upcoming challenges. The Bucks aim to overcome these hurdles and continue their pursuit of success in the league this season.
