Cabinet seeks Asian nations' support for Asiad bid
New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today appealed to the Asian nations to support India's bid for hosting the 2014 Asian Games in New Delhi at a meeting to be held in Kuwait City next week.
South Korea is the other contender for hosting the games. While India hosted the games way back in 1982, South Korea held it in Busan in 2002.
A meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured the Asian nations that India would make the 2014 event the best ever Asian Games, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.
South Korea seeks to hold the games in Incheon city.
Olympic medal winners Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Leander Paes and the country's lone medallist at the World athletics championships, Anju George, will head the sportspersons' list in the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) delegation that will present New Delhi's bid for the 2014 Asian Games in Kuwait City on April 17.
India is hosting the Commonwealth Games here in 2010.
