Lando Norris Reflects On His Performance Ahead Of Canadian Grand Prix In 2025 F1 Season

Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Lando Norris reflects on his performance in the 2025 Formula One season. Currently second in the drivers' championship, he acknowledges the challenges while expressing confidence in his abilities and those of teammate Oscar Piastri.

Lando Norris acknowledged that his 2025 Formula One season hasn't started perfectly, but he remains satisfied with his performance. Currently, Norris is second in the drivers' championship, trailing McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by 10 points as they head into the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. Piastri's impressive form has been a highlight this season, winning five races compared to Norris' two, with Max Verstappen being the only other winner.

Norris will participate in his 137th Grand Prix this weekend, surpassing Jenson Button as the second driver with the most races for McLaren. Despite not having an ideal start, Norris believes his current points tally provides a strong base for a championship bid. "It's been the start that is needed in order to fight for a championship," Norris told BBC Sport.

Norris Discusses Performance Before Canadian GP

Piastri's rise is notable, having won seven races in his F1 career, including a recent victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. This marked the 50th win for Australian drivers in F1 history. With five wins in nine races this year, Piastri could become the first Australian to achieve six victories in a single season if he triumphs on Sunday.

Piastri has also consistently finished on the podium in his last eight races. If he continues this streak in Canada, he'll join an elite group of drivers who have achieved nine consecutive podium finishes. Additionally, Piastri has secured four pole positions this season, three of which led to victories.

Max Verstappen faces challenges ahead of this weekend's race due to penalties from recent events with George Russell in Spain. A 10-second penalty dropped him to 10th place last time out, costing him nine championship points. Furthermore, three penalty points were added to his superlicence, bringing him close to an automatic one-race ban.

Verstappen has rarely finished outside the top ten twice consecutively since 2015 and 2016. Despite recent controversies, he became only the fourth driver in F1 history to lead at least one lap in 100 Grand Prix races.

Norris Reflects on Rivalries

Norris discussed past clashes with reigning world champion Verstappen over recent years. Incidents occurred in Austria, Austin, and Mexico during 2024 when Verstappen secured his fourth consecutive title. Norris previously criticised Verstappen's aggressive driving style and likened a clash with George Russell to something from Mario Kart.

This season, Norris has a competitive car but remains cautious about underestimating Verstappen despite recent struggles. "When you're racing for wins... you can never expect things to be easy," Norris stated. He emphasised learning from past experiences and knowing when to choose battles wisely.

Current Championship Standings

The current standings show Oscar Piastri leading with 186 points followed by Lando Norris at 176 points. Max Verstappen holds third place with 137 points while George Russell and Charles Leclerc round out the top five with 111 and 94 points respectively.

In terms of constructors' standings, McLaren leads comfortably with 362 points ahead of Ferrari (165), Mercedes (159), Red Bull (144), and Williams (54). As the season progresses towards its midpoint after Montreal’s race weekend concludes soon enough!
