Rick Carlisle Insists Knicks Series Is Far From Over Despite Pacers' Overtime Victory

Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle remains cautious after a thrilling overtime win against the New York Knicks. Despite Tyrese Haliburton's key contributions, he stresses the series is just beginning and highlights areas for improvement.

Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle expressed caution despite his team's thrilling Game 1 win over the New York Knicks. The Pacers were down by 14 points with less than three minutes left but staged a remarkable comeback, led by Tyrese Haliburton. His crucial shot tied the game, and Indiana eventually secured a 138-135 overtime victory, surprising Knicks fans at Madison Square Garden.

Haliburton ended the game with 31 points and 11 assists. He was confident about his jump shot at the end of regulation, saying, "I felt like it got stuck up there though. But it felt good when it left my hand." Aaron Nesmith also shone, scoring 30 points and hitting eight out of nine three-pointers, including six in the fourth quarter to tie an NBA playoff record.

Carlisle: Series Not Over After Overtime Win

Despite this victory, Carlisle remains focused on the series ahead. "It's a long series," he stated. "We're not going to get too excited about this. We've got things to clean up. They got things to clean up. Game 2 is going to be another war." This cautious approach highlights the competitive nature of playoff basketball.

The Pacers' resilience is notable as they have already made three comebacks this postseason when trailing by three possessions with under a minute remaining. Only the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2014 have achieved this before in NBA history. Haliburton acknowledged this pattern but prefers not to rely on late-game heroics.

Haliburton reflected on the team's chemistry, noting their close-knit nature: "We're just a group that has spent a lot of time with each other. I think that just gives us all confidence in each other." He added, "I've seen people joke about us. We're like a college team with how close we are and how we've been together."

Jalen Brunson scored an impressive 43 points for the Knicks, while Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 35 points. Despite these performances, Indiana managed to pull off an unexpected win against such strong opposition.

The Pacers' ability to rally from significant deficits demonstrates their determination and teamwork. Their youthful energy and camaraderie are evident in their playstyle and interactions on and off the court.

As the series progresses, both teams will need to address areas for improvement. The Pacers' victory sets an exciting tone for what promises to be a fiercely contested matchup between two talented squads.

The outcome of Game 1 has set high expectations for future encounters in this series. Both teams will aim to refine their strategies as they prepare for another intense battle on the court.
