Lionel Messi has proven to be top player having been rated as number one player in castrol ratings.

Past 12 months Castrol has kept a detail analysis of every pass, goals, every tackle, every single move of 2000 players and games from Europe"s top five leagues.

The outcome of the analysis showed that Messi"s strengths as a goalscorer and as a creator of scoring opportunities, and explains why he maintained his place at the head of the Castrol Rankings, beating Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo to become the world"s best player this term.

The Argentine star scored 34 goals this season for Barcelona and he was also the top scorer in the Champions League with eight goals, including a four-goal haul against Arsenal at the Camp Nou in the quarter-finals in April.

Another key finding in the analysis was that accuracy rate for every shot taken was 66 per cent more than any other player in the La Liga while in the Champions League the forward struck a competition-high 28 shots on target.
