The Cleveland Cavaliers have made a historic start to their NBA season under coach Kenny Atkinson. They secured a 131-122 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, marking their first-ever 9-0 start in the franchise's 55-year history. This achievement surpasses their previous best of an 8-0 start in the 1976-77 season. Atkinson is now the first NBA coach to win his initial nine games with a new team.

Donovan Mitchell was instrumental in the Cavaliers' success, scoring 29 points. Jarrett Allen contributed significantly with 16 points and 14 rebounds. The team had to overcome an early 12-point deficit, achieving this by shooting an impressive 54.2% overall and 48.6% from beyond the arc.

The Cavaliers' bench played a crucial role, adding 50 points to the team's total. Caris LeVert led the reserves with 16 points, while Ty Jerome added another 11 points. Coach Atkinson emphasised the importance of enjoying such moments, stating, "You have to [enjoy it]. This season's so long. It's so hard to win in this league."

Atkinson praised the team's unity and chemistry, saying, "What I think about is this team and the camaraderie they have." He expressed gratitude for being part of a successful group and acknowledged the strong bond between him and his players.

Atkinson highlighted that winning nine consecutive games involves contributions from every player on the roster. He noted that both physical and mental readiness are essential for such achievements. "When you win nine in a row, it's not one or two guys; it's the whole roster," he stated.
