The Cleveland Cavaliers have achieved a significant milestone by securing their 60th win of the NBA season, marking the first time they've done so without LeBron James. This victory came after a close 127-122 win against the Los Angeles Clippers, marking only the third time in franchise history they've reached this mark. The previous occasions were during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons when James was part of the team.

Jarrett Allen played a crucial role in this achievement, contributing 25 points and 12 rebounds, earning his 39th double-double of the season. Donovan Mitchell also added to the team's success with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists, while Evan Mobley scored 22 points. The Cavaliers are currently leading by 4.5 games over the Boston Celtics as they aim for the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Allen expressed excitement about what the team can accomplish this season. "Whether we like it or not, LeBron is the face of this city and has done so much," Allen said. "It is tough to break away from that notion or the records, the first to do it with LeBron here. We're trying to do something special, and hopefully we can." He noted that since joining Cleveland, each year has been a stepping stone with improvements along the way.

The Cavaliers' recent success follows a disappointing loss to the Detroit Pistons with a score of 133-122. This defeat left coach Kenny Atkinson frustrated. In his inaugural season with Cleveland, Atkinson aimed for incremental improvements from last year's playoff performance against Orlando Magic. "My internal goal was how we could improve from last year, even if it was for one or two wins," he stated.

Atkinson became one of only thirteen coaches in NBA history to achieve 60 wins in their first season with a new team. He emphasised that while reaching this milestone is significant, it's not their ultimate goal. "For this team to take it to another level and shatter that says a lot," he remarked. "We still can add to that. We have to celebrate this."

Future Aspirations for Cleveland

The coach prioritises maintaining good form and player health over securing the top seed position. "If I had priorities, I would rather be playing well and having everyone healthy [than getting top seed]," Atkinson explained. He remains optimistic about achieving both objectives by keeping their growth-focused philosophy intact.
