Cavs Sweep Miami Heat: A Test Against Themselves, Says Mitchell

The Cleveland Cavaliers showcased their strength by sweeping the Miami Heat in their playoff series. Donovan Mitchell led the charge in Game 4, scoring 22 points in just 25 minutes, contributing to a decisive 138-83 victory. Despite missing All-Star point guard Darius Garland due to a sprained toe, six Cavaliers players scored in double figures, demonstrating the team's depth.

Mitchell emphasised the importance of maintaining focus and finishing strong, stating, "We had to finish our breakfast." This mindset helped Cleveland achieve a historic point differential, winning Games 3 and 4 by a combined 92 points, the largest in playoff history over two games. The Cavaliers led by 39 points at halftime in Game 4, marking one of the most significant halftime leads in NBA history.

Ty Jerome contributed significantly with 18 points, while Evan Mobley added 17 points and Jarrett Allen recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Allen also made six steals, showcasing his defensive prowess. The Cavaliers' collective effort resulted in a series margin of victory that surpassed Denver's record set against New Orleans in 2009.

Reflecting on last year's playoffs, Mitchell noted that Cleveland had only won one road playoff game since his arrival until this season. He highlighted the importance of not becoming complacent despite leading the series. "We have a bigger goal in mind," he said. "For us, it's understanding that this is special."

The Cavaliers aimed to conclude the series swiftly to gain additional rest before potentially facing the Indiana Pacers in the next round. The Pacers were leading their series against the Milwaukee Bucks 3-1 at that time. Last year’s experience of losing momentum after leading against Orlando Magic served as motivation for Cleveland to maintain their intensity.

Cleveland's head coach Kenny Atkinson praised his team's consistent mentality and maturity throughout the season. He remarked on their ability to avoid letdowns and maintain focus during crucial moments. "We came down here with the right mentality," Atkinson said, acknowledging their leadership qualities.
