Celtics Stunned As They Fail To Break Three-Pointer Record Against Knicks

In their NBA opener, the Boston Celtics fell short of breaking the three-pointer record despite a strong start. Jaylen Brown expressed disbelief at the team's inability to convert late attempts after a promising performance.

The Boston Celtics had a strong start to their NBA season, defeating the New York Knicks 132-109. Despite this victory, they missed setting a new record for the most 3-pointers in a single game. Jaylen Brown expressed his frustration, saying it felt like there was "a lid on the basket" as they failed to make their last 13 attempts.

Al Horford tied the existing record with Boston's 29th 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. However, with nine minutes remaining, the team couldn't convert any more shots from beyond the arc. Jayson Tatum led the scoring with 37 points and 10 assists, while Derrick White contributed 24 points.

Celtics Miss Chance to Break Record

Jaylen Brown added 23 points but was left puzzled by their inability to break the record. "It was almost like we got jinxed or something," he remarked. Brown noted that when they played naturally, everything worked well, but once they focused on hitting more threes, their accuracy faltered.

"We got a bunch of great looks," Brown continued, "and it was like a lid on the basket." He emphasized that their team doesn't typically focus solely on three-pointers but plays according to their style. Towards the end of the game, however, things became challenging as they deviated from their usual play.

The Knicks were expected to be tough competitors in the Eastern Conference but struggled against Boston. Jalen Brunson managed to score 22 points for New York, while newcomer Karl-Anthony Towns added just 12 points and seven rebounds.

Despite this setback, Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau remains optimistic about future improvements. "It's Game 1," Thibodeau stated. He acknowledged that there wasn't much preparation time but stressed learning from this experience and improving through film analysis.

Looking Ahead

The Celtics will face the Washington Wizards next on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Knicks are set to play against the Indiana Pacers a day later. Both teams aim to refine their strategies and build upon their performances as they progress through the season.
