Chandigarh girls give tough time to holders Puddicherry
Chandigarh, June 1 (UNI) Defending champions Puddicherry face a tough challenge from hosts Chandigarh in the girls Pool A encounter on the opening day of the 21st Junior National Atya Patya Championship being organised by Chandigarh Atya Patya Association (CAPA) here today.
In the best-of-three set game, Chandigarh put up a good show before going down at 7-9, 12-16.
In pool B, Uttar Pradesh beat Rajasthan by 8-6, 10-6 and Manipur got the better of Haryana by 14-9, 11-8.
Manipur boys also recorded 10-6, 20-16 verdict against West Bengal by 10-6, 20-16 in a pool A fixture.
In the opening match Maharashtra defeated Punjab by 39-12, 34-9 in a Pool B encounter. However, in another pool B match, Uttrakhand beat Haryana by 18-15, 11-9.
Twenty three states are taking part in the three-day Junior National Championship, according to CAPA general secretary Baljinder Singh Banwait.
Punjab Yatching Association general secretary MS Cheema inaugurated the championship. President APFI Dr H B Hallad, was the guest of honour while CAPA president Darshan Kumar presided over the function.
Results: Boys: Pool A: Manipur bt West Bengal 10-6, 20-16.
Pool B: Maharashtra bt Punjab 39-12, 349, Uttrakhand b Haryana 18-15, 11-9.
Pool C: AP bt Chandigarh 14-9, 15-13, UP bt Orissa 8-6, 10-8.
Pool D: Karnataka bt Jharkhand 10-6, 10-6, Rajasthan bt J-K 13-10, 26-5.
Girls: Pool A: Pudicherry bt Chandigarh 9-7, 16-12.
Pool B: UP bt Rajasthan 8-6, 10-6. Manipur bt Haryana 14-9, 11-8.
Delhi bt Rajasthan 13-10, 18-15.
Pool C: West Bengal bt Jharkhand 15-13, 15-11.
Pool D: Karnataka bt HP 18-13, 17-8.
