Chargers set target of 166 for Challengers

Hyderabad, May 25 (UNI) Determined to score their first win on the homeground, Deccan Chargers compiled 165 all out against Bangalore Royal Challengers in the return leg match of the DLF Indian Premier League here this evening.

Electing to bat first, Deccan Chargers stand-in skipper Adam Gilchrist along with Herchelle Gibbs gave a solid start adding 101 runs in 11 overs before Gibbs succumbed to the web spun by Kumble.

Gibbs made a quickfire 47 off 34 balls, blasting two sixes and six boundaries before Anil Kumble, who had helped Royal Challengers score an upset victory over Chennai Super Kings, got the much needed breakthrough with a googly. Gibbs went far down the track and Goswami had enough time to take off the bails after fumbling.

Gilchrist missed his half century by four runs when he tried to loft a full length delivery from Vinay Kumar to be caught by Akhil at long off. The skipper belted two sixes and four boundaries off 37 balls.

After his departure, only sharma Rohit (17) and Venugopal Rao (26) could make some useful runs as others failed to peform.

Chamara Silva got out to the pavilion trying to hit a good length delivery outside the off stump to be caught behind by Goswami.

The hosts lost the scoring momentum when young Rohit Sharma(17) coming down the track tried to loft Vinay Kumar and got a top edge and Steyn made no mistake in taking the catch comfortably.

The next man to fall was Ravi Teja (7), who missed the line completely to be dismissed by Virat Kohili.

Local lad Venugopal Rao made a useful 26 which included two sixes and an equal number of hits to the fence before he was caught by Wasim Jaffer when he tried to play it away Vinay umar delivery on the leg side.

Sanja Bangar (0) departed without facing a ball when Arjun called him for a quick single. An alert Vinay ran across, picked the ball and hit the stumps.

Then Vaas was run out when he failed to beat the throw from Goswami.

Arjun(8) trying to pull Steyn and was caught by Chipli (substitute) at deep square leg.

Styen then castled R P Singh (1) with a yorker to end the Deccan Chargers' innings.

Both the teams, out of contention for semifinals, are fighting it out to avoid ending up in the bottom of the league table.

Deccan Chargers by winning the next league outing against Chennai Super Kings could upset the latter getting a berth in the semifinals.
