India’s dominance at the Chess Olympiad 2024 continued on Friday (September 13) as both the men's and women's teams secured impressive victories in their respective Round 3 matches.
The Indian contingent, having made a strong start in the previous rounds, carried forward their momentum with outstanding performances against Hungary B (Men) and Switzerland (Women).

The Indian men's team, seeded second, defeated Hungary B with a 3.5-0.5 score. Meanwhile, the top-seeded Indian women's team secured a commanding 3-1 victory over Switzerland.

India's men’s team continued their winning streak, overpowering Hungary B. The young Indian prodigies were at their best once again, with GMs Gukesh Dommaraju, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, and Arjun Erigaisi scoring decisive wins, while Vidit Gujrathi was held to a draw.
GM Gukesh Dommaraju (2764) led the charge by defeating GM Adam Kozak (2609) on the first board, securing India's first point. GM Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu (2750) followed with a win over GM Tamas Banusz (2605) on the second board, continuing his excellent form.
GM Arjun Erigaisi (2778) added another victory by defeating GM Peter Prohaszka (2542), further solidifying India's lead. On the fourth board, GM Vidit Gujrathi (2720) settled for a draw against GM Gabor Papp (2550), contributing to India’s overall score of 3.5-0.5.
The Indian women’s team, led by GM Harika Dronavalli, delivered a solid performance against Switzerland, winning 3-1. Though Harika faced a tough battle on the first board, her teammates stepped up to ensure a convincing win.
GM Harika Dronavalli (2502) suffered a loss against GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (2483) on the top board, giving Switzerland an early lead. GM Vaishali Rameshbabu (2498), however, quickly equalized by defeating WGM Ghazal Hakimifard (2192) on the second board. IM Divya Deshmukh (2483) added another point for India with her victory over WIM Sofiia Hryzlova (2188) on the third board. IM Vantika Agrawal (2370) sealed the win for India by defeating WFM Mariya Manko (2159) on the fourth board.
The Indian men’s team registered a commanding 4-0 victory over Iceland in Round 2.
The women’s team had previously secured a 3.5-0.5 victory over the Czech Republic in Round 2.
