The upcoming FIDE Women's World Cup 2025 final promises to be a landmark moment for Indian chess, as two of the country's brightest stars, Koneru Humpy and Divya Deshmukh, face off for the title.
This marks the first time that an all-Indian final will take place in this prestigious tournament, guaranteeing India both the gold and silver medals.

The final is set for Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 4:30 PM IST, with a possible second classical game on July 27 if needed. If the match remains tied, rapid and blitz tie-breaks are scheduled for July 28. The format involves two classical games where each player gets 90 minutes for the first 40 moves plus an additional 30 minutes to finish the game. Every move carries a 30-second increment from the start. Should the score be level after these games, a sequence of quicker rapid and blitz games will decide the champion.
Koneru Humpy, 38, comes with a wealth of experience. Ranked world No. 5 with a peak rating of 2623, Humpy has been a dominant figure in women's chess for years, known for her deep strategic understanding and endgame mastery. She is also a former World Rapid Champion, demonstrating her strength across time controls. Her calm demeanor and resilience shine brightest in high-pressure moments, as evidenced by her semi-final win in tie-breaks against China's Lei Tingjie.
On the other side, 19-year-old Divya Deshmukh embodies the new generation of talent, currently ranked world No. 18. She is the youngest Indian ever to qualify for the Candidates Tournament and has impressed with her tactical aggression and fearless playstyle.
The Chess World Cup 2025 Final starts at 4:30 PM IST on Saturday (July 26). There is telecast available in India. The match can be live-streamed on the official FIDE YouTube channel from the same time in India.
