Child abuse group wants The Who out of Super Bowl performance

London, Jan 3 (ANI): A Florida based child abuse prevention group has called upon the American National Football League to cancel the performance of British rockband The Who at Super Bowl.

The rockers are slated to perform at the Super Bowl XLIV, in Miami on February 7.

However, Child does not want the band to play as Pete Townshend, the group's guitarist and chief songwriter, was arrested by the British police in 2003, for allegedly possessing child pornography.lthough Townshend came clear off the charges, he was listed in a sex offenders register for five years as part of a formal police caution for accessing a child abuse pics carrying website.

"I'm a fan of the band, I grew up with The Who. Pete Townshend is the only issue...The issue is, it sends the wrong message to American families," the Telegraph quoted Child founder and CEO Evin Daly, as telling the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

However, in a letter to Daly, Joe Browne, the NFL's executive vice president of communications and public affairs, said the league knew about Townshend's arrest. He also mentioned Townshend's charity work.

Brian McCarthy, an NFL spokesman, said Townshend and The Who would perform as scheduled in the halftime show at LandShark Stadium in Miami.

He added that the British police cleared Townshend of the charges because he was engaged in research for a child abuse project. (ANI)
